Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman

Summary: This story is about a mother bird that has a baby bird but goes to find food before it hatches. The baby bird hatches while the mom is gone and goes to look for her. The baby falls out the tree and runs into lots of different animals thinking they are its mother. The baby runs into a cat, hen, dog, and a cow but they all say they are not the mother. Then the bird asks a car, boat and a plane but they don’t answer so they couldn’t be the mom. The baby bird finally runs into a big machine, a “snort”, but it’s not the mother bird either. The snort picks up the baby bird and puts it back into the nest. The mother shows up right after with food and says that it is the baby bird’s mother.
