You Are Mine by Max Lucado

Genre: Fiction/Picture Book
Age range: For infants or children in preschool.
Summary: The Wemmicks are back again, trying to show one another up. This book is a perfect demonstration of how when you become trapped in the ways of the world, that you sometimes make a lot of mistakes in order to “keep up with the Jones’.” Punchinello is so busy being caught up in the quest for who can have the most boxes—big ones, small ones, oddly shaped ones. He even begins working longer hours, losing all connection with his friends, and selling his bed and his house in order to support his box addiction. But he realizes that he will never have the most. That there will always be someone else with more boxes then he ever will possess. When the Wemmicks begin to build their boxes high into the sky, Punchinello realizes how ridiculous his efforts in having the most boxes are. So he goes to see Eli. Eli remarks that Punchinello has not been around in a while. Punchinello proclaims that he has been busy. But again, Eli reminds Punchinello that it is not the things of this world that are important. It is only important what you possess spiritually. This book is perfect for helping children understand the unimportance of material things, and how it isn’t about what you but more about what you give.
