Genre: Picture Book
Age Range: For infants or children in preschool
Summary: Robert is a young horse which lives on a farm. He has a birthday party and invites all his friends. There are beautiful roses surrounding the cake. Robert sneezes and blows all of his friends flat. His mother takes him to the doctor, who tells them that Robert is allergic to roses and must leave the farm. Robert goes to look for work and finds a job, first for the milk man, then as a show horse, but each time his allergy got in the way and his powerful sneezes lost him his job. Finally he gets a job as a police horse. One day, he sees three men rob a bank. He chases them, but they seem to be getting away. Suddenly Robert remembers his allergy. He sees a little girl with a rose in her hat and purposely sniffs it. His great sneeze flattens the robbers and they are put in jail. Robert is a hero. They have a big party for Robert and present him with a rose cape in appreciation. Everyone expects another great sneeze, but Robert discovers that he is no longer allergic to roses. This is a fun read-aloud story for the beginning reader. It is told in simple words and the situations are sure to help children enjoy the process of reading.
