Genre: Fiction/Picture Book
Age Range: For infants or children in preschoolSummary: One day, Sooki, a happy little elephant was dancing through the jungle and meets a parrot. The parrot is unhappy because as Sooki dances, he makes a lot of noise, kicks over the trees, and frightens the other animals. The parrot tells Sooki that his skin is too big for him, to which Sooki replies that he would like to improve himself but doesn’t know how. The parrot doesn’t know how either and leaves Sooki alone in the jungle. Next Sooki meets a tiger and he notices that the tiger’s coat fits him very well. Sooki asks advice from the tiger, but the tiger only offers to nibble off Sooki’s extra skin. Sooki decides to exercise to make his skin fit better, but that doesn’t help. Next, he soaks in the water in hopes that his skin will shrink, but that doesn’t work either. Finally, he hides himself in a dark cave where no one can see how his skin doesn’t fit. While sitting sadly in the cave, Sooki hears a hungry lion. He is so frightened that he trumpets his fear and a whole herd of elephants come to his rescue. He thinks the adult elephants are the most beautiful creatures he has ever seen, and wishes he looked just like them. Finally, Sooki discovers that he is a little elephant, and is perfect the way he is. This is another story about being happy with yourself and not letting others make you feel bad about yourself. It is a great read aloud book, with colorful illustrations, short words, and lots of repetition.
