Genre: Informational/Picture Book
Age Range: For infants and children in preschool
Summary: This is the story of two children, Elizabeth and Jimmy, who are taking their first airplane trip. The book begins as the two children and their mother enter the airport. They get their tickets and check their luggage. It describes putting their carry-ons on the conveyor belt and stepping through the metal detector. They see shops and restaurants. They look out the window and the story describes what the baggage handlers and airplane mechanics might be doing. The children get to visit the cockpit and meet the pilots. The book describes the parts of the aircraft itself and even the feeling of being pushed back in your seat as the airplane takes off. This story would be a very good way to help children feel comfortable with an airplane trip if they were frightened. It tells them what to expect and describes a typical flight very well. Although told in a story format with fictional children, the book is really a non-fiction description of the experience of travel by air.
